With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, she has worked alongside Oscar, Bafta and Emmy winning designers on a wide range of TV productions, as well as some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.

Her portfolio is brimming with makeup credits, working alongside actors such as Daniel Radcliffe, and her skills have most recently been enlisted as the Makeup and Hair Designer on the set of Young Wallander. Other credits include, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Danish Girl starring Eddie Redmayne, and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, as Head of 2nd Unit Makeup and Hair. Her industry experience also covers the British film industry, where she worked on several popular TV period mini-series including Great Expectations, Henry V and Richard II.

A passionate makeup artist with many years of teaching experience, Renata now brings her knowledge of period dramas and futuristic blockbusters to The Iver Academy as an Academic Consultant. As well as continuing her freelance work, she will be sharing her industry knowledge with the students on our popular film and TV makeup courses.

Q&A: Renata Gilbert

How did you choose the teaching team for the new academy?

We’re extremely lucky as the tutors are working industry professionals, so they are completely up-to-speed with all the latest products and techniques, and at every opportunity they will offer work experience to Iver Makeup Academy graduates. We can not talk about all the films that students have worked on as all MUA’s are asked to sign NDA’S ( Non disclosure agreements ) to protect the content of the film before it is released.

Some of the films that have been released that the students have had work experience on can be found on our Student Success page.

How are you helping to support your students once they have graduated?

Once graduated, our students all receive a certificate from The Iver Makeup Academy, which is a testament to their skill and expertise in their chosen course. As well as this industry-recognised training, we provide excellent links to the industry through our agency.

What makes The Iver Makeup Academy different to other makeup schools?

We teach in small but vibrant tutor groups, and most importantly, unlike other courses, we aren’t tied to an outdated curriculum. We can adapt our courses to meet the needs of the industry. Also, all of our courses are hands-on and are taught through practical demonstrations. We cover every aspect you would need to know to become a successful makeup and hair artist working in today’s media environment. The students receives daily feedback to ensure everyone understands and practises each technique.
