This course is designed for individuals who wish to develop a deeper knowledge of men's haircutting and barbering techniques as applied in the Film and TV industry with an internal qualification equivalent to the National Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) of Men's Hairdressing and Barbering level 3.
It aims to strengthen and advance haircutting with a step by step breakdown of techniques and intense practical work. There is an average cutting practise of 3 to 4 hours a day on dummies for 3 days followed by an extra 2 days of haircutting on live models. All closely supported by the tutors.
Inspired by hairstyles from feature films and television, this course will help to develop abilities in design and execute haircutting. The course covers short back and sides, graduation techniques used in hair styles from the Romans and middle ages to contemporary styles and hair trimming for continuity purposes. Your tutor will be an industry expert who will demonstrate and reiterate direct industry experience. They will assess your individual strengths and weaknesses to plan and facilitate
Entry requirements: Previous experience in haircutting at any level is necessary.

Hair and make-up designer, Alex Volpe, has worked with some of Hollywood’s and UK biggest names during his 24 year career in the industry and over 10 years of experience in the hair salon world. Alex has won an RTS Television award with Anne Oldham in Sword of Honour cutting Daniel Craig's hair into a 40s hairstyle.
Alex has designed hair and makeup for film productions all over Europe. Some of the actors that Alex has cut and styled hair for are: Damian Lewis, Tom Hardy, Matthew Macfadyen, Scarlett Johansson, the list goes on. During his 10 years as Artistic Director of his own hair salon Alex has trained many young and successful hairstylists. Currently he has developed a passion for passing on his skills devoting himself, when he is not on a film project, to education having qualified as Hairdressing Tutor at the Chelsea and Kensington college with a City and Guilds award. He is a keen curriculum development enthusiast as Alex believes that a successful vocational professional career is in the training, hence an appropriate and contemporary curriculum not stuck in a different time and context, is the key. Alex takes pride and joy in teaching hair cutting, in particular when tuned and refined skills make students blossom with natural confidence.
Students will be expected to bring their own hairdressing scissors. All other materials will be provided to complete the course.
